FIDE World Chess Championship 2024: Live Streaming Details
The much-anticipated 2024 FIDE World Chess Championship is set to begin on Monday, November 25. Chess enthusiasts are eager to witness an epic showdown as two of the sport’s finest minds clash over 14 intense rounds. Reigning champion Ding Liren of China will defend his title against India’s Gukesh Dommaraju, who earned his place in this prestigious match by winning the Candidates Tournament in Toronto earlier this year. Remarkably, this is the first time in 138 years that two Asian grandmasters will compete for the ultimate prize in chess.

Gukesh Dommaraju is on the cusp of history, aiming to become the youngest World Chess Champion ever. If he succeeds, he will join the legendary Vishwanathan Anand as the second Indian to claim the coveted crown. Anand held the championship title five times in his illustrious career. However, the challenge will be formidable for the 18-year-old prodigy, as Ding Liren, China’s first-ever World Chess Champion, is coming off a marathon victory against Russia’s Ian Nepomniachtchi last year.

Josko Gvardiol Scores to Help Croatia Secure 1-1 Draw Against Portugal, Advancing to Nations League Quarterfinals

Josko Gvardiol, the Manchester City defender, has scored three goals in his last six Premier League appearances.

Joško Gvardiol’s goal secured Croatia a 1-1 draw against Portugal, clinching a Nations League quarterfinal spot by finishing one point ahead of Scotland, who beat Poland 2-1. In Group A4, Spain, already qualified, edged Switzerland 3-2 in a penalty-filled match.

“It felt like two different games,” said Joško Gvardiol. “We were sluggish in the first half and needed adjustments. The second half was much improved — we had more energy, better ball control, created chances, and finally scored.”

Meanwhile, in Warsaw, Kamil Piątkowski unleashed a powerful strike into the top corner to equalize for Poland against Scotland.

Back in Split, Portugal’s Nuno Mendes came close to matching Gvardiol’s heroics in the 73rd minute, but Dominik Livaković made a crucial save.

Scotland secured a dramatic victory in added time, with Andy Robertson heading home to seal their second win in four days. However, Croatia comfortably held on for the draw they needed.

“Our players earned this result through sheer effort, even though it feels like we always have to fight for it,” said Croatia coach Zlatko Dalić. “There may have been questions about results, but never about our performance.”

The supreme leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei

Recent media reports have suggested that Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, is in a coma and has reportedly designated his son, Mojtaba Khamenei, as his successor.

Amid swirling reports that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is in a coma, Iran’s Supreme Leader shared a photo on Sunday showing himself in a meeting with Iran’s ambassador to Lebanon.

Multiple media outlets had recently claimed that the 85-year-old Khamenei was in a coma and had secretly named his 55-year-old son, Mojtaba Khamenei, as his successor. These reports followed an October article in The New York Times suggesting that Khamenei was “seriously ill.”

In the photo shared on Khamenei’s X account, the Supreme Leader was seen speaking with Mojtaba Amani, Iran’s Ambassador to Lebanon, in his office.

In the post, Khamenei wrote in Persian: “Ayatollah Khamenei, the leader of the Islamic Revolution, met and spoke with Mr. Mojtaba Amani, the veteran ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Lebanon, at noon today, on the sidelines of his daily meetings.”

Mojtaba Amani, Iran’s Ambassador to Lebanon, was among nearly 3,000 people injured in a September explosion involving pagers and walkie-talkies used by Hezbollah. At least 39 people were killed in the attack, which Hezbollah and Iran blamed on Israel.

Amani met with Ayatollah Khamenei, presenting a report on his health. Last month, Khamenei delivered his first sermon in five years, where he supported Palestinian and Lebanese movements against Israel, and justified Iran’s missile strikes on Israeli infrastructure. In the sermon, he declared that Israel “won’t last long” and stated that Israel would not prevail against Hamas or Hezbollah, holding a gun while making his remarks.
